The essential list
- Padded cycling shorts (bib or waist — whichever you prefer)
- Moisture-wicking top: a jersey, tech tee, or tank
- Sports bra you already ride/run in
- Helmet, fitted so it doesn't rock on your head
- Cycling gloves (huge difference on gravel vibration)
- Sunglasses — eye protection, not just style
- Closed-toe athletic shoes (flats are perfectly fine)
What to layer for Kansas weather
- Under 50°F: knee warmers, long-sleeve base layer, light gloves
- 50–70°F: shorts, short sleeves, standard gloves
- Over 70°F: shorts, sleeveless or short sleeve, more water
Wind is often a bigger factor than temperature on Kansas gravel. A light wind vest is a great investment early on.
What to skip on ride #1
You do not need clip-in shoes, aero anything, a computer, or a matching kit. Show up in what you have. Nobody in the More Than Miles™ cohort will look twice at your outfit — that's the entire point.
